South Extension of I-355

Client: Illinois State Toll Highway Authority

IE Consultants was responsible for the preparation of Contract Plans for 2.5 miles of new tollway in Will Countyincluding a Split Diamond Interchange at I-355 and 143rd Street and Archer Ave.

The project included the design of four Highway Bridges:
 
 
I-355 over 135th Street and Long Run Creek
5 span dual mainline bridges, 51'-6" back to back of abutments. Superstructure consists of reinforced concrete deck on 72" PPC Bulb Tee Beams. Spans ranging from 55' to 130'. Substructure consists of pile bent abutments and multi column piers on drilled shafts.
 
 
Archer Ave (IL 171) over I-355
2 span crossroad bridge, 322'-3" back to back of abutments, 101'-2" width. Superstructure consists of reinforced concrete deck on 72" PPC Bulb Tee Beams.  Spans 123' - 132'. Substructure consists of vaulted abutments and a trapezoidal pier. Skew of 39.5 degrees.
 
 
143rd Street over I-355
2 span crossroad bridge, 222'-0" back to back of abutments, 82'-0" width. Superstructure consists of reinforced concrete deck on 72" PPC Bulb Tee Beams.  Spans 117' - 105'. Substructure consists of integral abutments and a trapezoidal pier.
 
 
151st Street over I-355
2 span crossroad bridge, 208'-0" back to back of abutments, 47'-2" width. Superstructure consists of reinforced concrete deck on 60" PPC Bulb Tee Beams.  Spans 105'-6" - 102'-6". Substructure consists of integral abutments and a trapezoidal pier.
 
 
Two Precast Concrete Noise Walls North of 135th Street
 
1005' long and 1034' long.  Maximum height 18'.
